Rakhni declared first “Education City” in Balochistan

QUETTA: The provincial government has decided that Rakhni, a town in District Barkhan, will be officially designated as an “Education City” under the upcoming 2025–2026 fiscal budget.

According to details, this is the first time in Pakistan’s history that such a status will be conferred on a city in the province. The initiative, inspired by Canada’s educational model in Toronto, aims to centralize high-quality learning institutions, research hubs, and digital infrastructure in one region. The government envisions Rakhni as a future hub for higher education, innovation, and academic excellence, with partnerships expected from both national and international universities.

According to sources in the Balochistan government, the plan includes the construction of modern schools, vocational colleges, a digital university campus, student housing, and science labs—an investment estimated at over Rs. 25 billion.
