SERAAWAN: Senior politician Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Khan Raisani announced on Sunday his intention to file a constitutional petition challenging recent mineral allocations made under the federal Mines and Minerals Act, declaring it a necessary fight for Balochistan’s rights.
Speaking at a consultative session with senior allies, Raisani launched a sharp critique against national political parties for their perceived silence on issues critical to Balochistan’s collective interests. He asserted that compromises made by these parties have systematically marginalized the province and violated the constitutional rights of its people.
The planned petition will seek a judicial review of the allocations, which Raisani argues severely undermine the province’s authority and control over its own natural resources. He emphasized that the move is not a personal endeavor but a structured effort to defend Balochistan’s socio-economic and political rights, ensure transparency in governance, and safeguard resources for the provincial collective benefit.
“This struggle is for the rights of Balochistan, to protect our resources for our future generations,” Raisani stated, framing the legal action as part of a broader principle.
Indicating a two-pronged strategy, Raisani confirmed that political advocacy would run parallel to the legal battle. This includes engaging with and pressuring parliamentary representatives to challenge the act and its implementations directly within legislative forums.
The announcement highlights growing tensions over the centralized management of provincial resources and signals an escalating, organized effort to address these grievances through lawful means, placing the issue firmly before the superior judiciary.
Meanwhile the Balochistan government has sealed a crucial financial agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to conduct a feasibility study for a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Quetta. The move marks a major milestone in Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti’s vision to establish a modern, safe, and quality transport network across the province.
