QUETTA:The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Karachi has thwarted a major terrorist attack, crediting timely intervention during a snap check for preventing potential catastrophe. The operation led to the recovery of a minor girl who had been brought to the city from Balochistan.
During the investigation, a deeply concerning trend was uncovered. The rescued minor revealed to Geo News that she had been contacted, groomed, and prepared for a suicide attack by the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Exploiting her vulnerability, the terrorists reportedly feigned sympathy, aware of her father’s absence. She disclosed that she was sent to Karachi to carry out an attack but was arrested before meeting her handlers. Consequently, she did not know the specific target location.
The case highlights a sinister modus operandi, with CTD officials stating that banned terrorist organizations are actively recruiting and training young Baloch girls as suicide bombers.
Reacting to the incident, Pakistan Peoples Party Member of the National Assembly Nawabzada Jamal Raisani issued a statement on social media platform X, praising Sindh Police and other law enforcement agencies for their “timely and effective action” in averting a major tragedy. He strongly condemned the influence of “misleading and violent ideologies” on young Baloch girls by armed terrorist organizations, calling it a sign of their “intellectual and moral decline.”
Raisani issued an urgent appeal for vigilance, urging parents and educational institutions to closely monitor children’s activities. He further called upon Baloch society to counter the designs of “anti-national elements” through awareness, unity, and collective responsibility, framing the fight against such radicalization as a societal imperative.
Meanwhile Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has been officially named the new Chief of the Bugti tribes, local tribal elders confirmed on Monday.
Bugti tribal leaders selected Mir Sarfaraz as the eighth Chief of the Bugti, entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the tribal setup. Elders prayed for his success and safety.

All major Bugti tribal chiefs and elders will attend the ceremony. Participating tribes include Shambani, Kalpar, Mundrani, Pirozani, Nothani, and Domb tribes.
