QUETTA: Heavy monsoon rains have caused flash floods in northeastern Balochistan, severely affecting low-lying areas and seasonal streams in the Koh-e-Suleiman mountain range and upper eastern regions. The deluge has disrupted key road links between Balochistan and the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to local authorities, several major routes, including those connecting Harnai, Duki, Musakhel, and Kohlu, have been impacted by overflowing streams and floodwaters, making access difficult and posing risks to commuters and local residents.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, intermittent rainfall continues in Lahore and several other districts. In Kamalia, the rising waters of the Ravi River have led to significant land erosion near Jhalla Rasgulla, washing away hundreds of acres of farmland. Corn, rice, and vegetable crops have suffered extensive damage, with fields submerged under floodwaters.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued further warnings, forecasting more rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms in southern Punjab, northeastern Balochistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the coming days. Other parts of the country are expected to experience hot and humid weather conditions.
