ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced encouraging news for residents of drought-affected areas of Balochistan, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms during the month of December.
According to the department, a strong system of western winds is expected to enter Balochistan between December 6 and December 10.
As a result, the province will experience its first major and extended spell of rainfall, which is likely to continue intermittently throughout the rest of the month.
In contrast, most other parts of the country are expected to remain dry.
The weather office stated that, similar to November, there is little chance of rainfall across much of Pakistan during December.
Snowfall is also unlikely in the northern mountainous regions. Dry and cold conditions persist nationwide, while smog and fog have intensified in the plains.
For the next 24 hours, the majority of the country is expected to witness cold and dry weather.
Fog and smog will continue to affect the plains, while extremely cold conditions are predicted in the hilly regions.
The department further reported that weather conditions tonight will remain cold and dry across most areas, with severe cold in the northern highlands.
Fog and smog are likely to prevail in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
As per the latest temperature readings, Skardu recorded the lowest temperature at minus 11 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures in Islamabad stood at 3°C, Lahore at 7°C, Karachi at 13°C, Peshawar at 2°C, and Quetta at minus 4°C.
