Rain washes out PSL 10 clash between Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars

LAHORE: The 21st match of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 between Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars was abandoned due to heavy rain and stormy weather, resulting in both teams receiving one point each.

The match, held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, saw Quetta Gladiators win the toss and elect to field first.

Lahore Qalandars got off to an aggressive start, reaching 111 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in just 11.3 overs.

However, play was halted when strong winds and a dust storm swept across the stadium, followed shortly by torrential rain.

Despite waiting for a potential resumption, conditions failed to improve, forcing the match referee to call off the game officially.

Before the start of the match, Quetta Gladiators’ captain Saud Shakeel expressed confidence in his bowling unit, noting their strong performances in the past three games.

“I’m hopeful we’ll continue our good form with the ball today,” he said.

On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars’ captain Shaheen Shah Afridi stated that even if they had won the toss, they would have opted to bat first.

“A score between 170 to 180 would have been a competitive target to defend,” he remarked.

Quetta Gladiators were dealt a blow ahead of the game as experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir was ruled out due to fever. In his place, emerging pacer Mohammad Zeeshan was included in the playing XI.

The washout adds just one point to each team’s tally, a result that could influence the race for playoff spots as the tournament progresses.

Earlier in the day, Karachi Kings secured a commanding 87-run victory over Multan Sultans, knocking them out of the playoff race.

Batting first, Karachi posted a formidable 204/4.

James Vince led the charge with a 65-run knock off 45 balls, while Irfan Khan Niazi added 40 from 33 deliveries.

Khushdil Shah chipped in with a blistering 33 off just 13 balls.

In response, Multan struggled to build partnerships, collapsing for just 117 in the 17th over. Kamran Ghulam (29) and Yasir Khan (26) were the only notable contributors as the rest of the batting lineup faltered under pressure.

With this result, Multan Sultans are officially out of contention for the PSL 10 playoffs.
