ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a significant weather alert, forecasting rain and snowfall across Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Balochistan over the next 48 hours.
According to the NDMA’s Emergency Operations Centre, intermittent rain is expected in most districts of Balochistan within the next 24 to 48 hours. Key districts likely to be affected include Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Pishin, and the provincial capital, Quetta, along with surrounding areas. Simultaneously, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are expected to receive rain and snowfall, with predictions for Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Astore, Diamer, and Shigar.
The authority has warned of potentially hazardous conditions, particularly in mountainous regions where snowfall could lead to slippery roads, disrupting traffic flow and increasing travel risks. The NDMA has strongly advised the public to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel in these areas, and ensure vehicles are equipped with snow chains, extra fuel, and are in good mechanical condition, specifically warning against using vehicles with old or weak tires.
The NDMA has instructed all relevant provincial and district administrations to remain on high alert and implement necessary preventive measures in light of the forecast. The authority’s spokesperson confirmed that the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) is actively monitoring the situation to ensure timely dissemination of information and coordination with relevant institutions to mitigate any potential dangers arising from the severe weather.
