KALAT: Following a spell of thunder and rain, the weather turned pleasant in Kalat, a central district of Balochistan.
On Friday evening, showers fell over Kalat city and its surrounding areas, bringing much-needed relief from the intense heat that had gripped the region for several days.
The arrival of clouds and rain brought smiles to heat-stricken faces, and the entire area was refreshed with the downpour.
However, in some low-lying areas, streets and drainage channels were flooded.
Notably, even a few drops of rain led to multiple power feeders in Kalat and nearby regions tripping, causing widespread electricity outages.
This resulted in a flood of complaints to the local power department’s helpline. It’s worth mentioning that this month, the central and southern parts of Balochistan experienced a severe heatwave, with temperatures in Sibi even exceeding 52 degrees Celsius.
However, the recent spell of rain has provided some relief from the scorching weather.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued warnings regarding the possibility of urban flooding due to the ongoing monsoon rains.
PDMA Director Faisal Panezai, in a recent TV interview, stated that relevant departments have been alerted and machinery has been dispatched.
