QUETTA: NDMA Issues Alert for Heavy Snowfall in Northern Areas from January 16 to 22

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for severe snowfall in the northern regions from January 16 to 22. According to NDMA, a new western weather system is approaching, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall and snowfall. Heavy rain and snowfall are anticipated in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir.

Moderate to heavy snowfall is likely in areas such as Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Astore, Chitral, Dir, Malam Jabba, and Swat, as well as in Battagram, Naran, Kaghan, Galliyat, and Murree.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Authority in Gilgit-Baltistan has issued an additional alert for intensified severe cold.

As per the alert, rainfall is possible in the plains of Gilgit-Baltistan, and the public is advised to take precautionary measures during the cold, snowfall, and rain.

Earlier, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced the end of dry weather and the arrival of rains.

A western weather system is expected to enter Punjab between January 16 and 19.

From January 20 to 23, snowfall and rain are likely in Murree, Galliyat, and other areas.

Rainfall is also expected in Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan, Faisalabad, as well as in Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur divisions.

The Meteorological Department forecasts rain in Islamabad and various districts of Punjab from January 20 to 23.

On January 23, rain and snowfall are expected in the upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while rain and snowfall are anticipated in various districts of Balochistan from January 21 to 23.

Rainfall is possible at several locations in Sindh from January 22 to 23.

Due to the rain and snowfall, there is a risk of landslides and disruptions to transportation in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather.
