Rain and snow expected in Upper Pak from December 13 to 18: NDMA

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), through its National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), has issued a weather advisory forecasting rain and snowfall in the upper regions of the country from December 13 to December 18, 2025.

The advisory warns of changing weather conditions that may affect travel, daily activities, and public safety in several areas.

In this regard, as per the NDMA, a new spell of western weather system is expected to impact northern and western parts of Pakistan between December 13 and 15.

During this period, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan are likely to receive rainfall, while snowfall is expected in mountainous and high-altitude regions.

Furthermore, the advisory states that light to moderate rain may occur in plain areas, while moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in upper Kohistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, high-altitude areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, and mountainous regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The NDMA has also cautioned that fog intensity may increase due to prevailing weather conditions, potentially reducing visibility in several areas. Moreover, the authority has warned that snowfall may disrupt traffic flow on mountainous roads, with the possibility of road closures at certain locations.

In this sense, the NDMA further noted that from December 16 to 18, the intensity of snowfall is expected to decrease; however, cold weather conditions are likely to persist. Meanwhile, the National Emergency Operations Center has advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel to mountainous and high-altitude areas during this period.

The NDMA is closely coordinating with relevant departments and provincial authorities to ensure preparedness and timely response to any potential emergencies arising from the forecasted weather.
