QUETTA: The series of seven explosions struck Quetta and Dera Murad Jamali on Saturday, targeting law enforcement agencies, railway infrastructure, and a construction site. Despite the scale of the attacks.
Furthermore, the first incident occurred on Qambrani Road in Quetta, where unidentified assailants hurled a grenade near a police checkpost.
The device exploded but caused no injuries. The second blast shook the same area when attackers detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) planted on a motorcycle as a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) vehicle passed by.
The IED was triggered remotely. “Miscreants planted an IED on the motorbike and detonated it with a remote control when the CTD vehicle was passing through the area,” he said, adding that the bomb disposal squad personnel travelling in the vehicle escaped unharmed.
Moreover, two additional explosions were reported later that evening. One blast damaged a section of railway track near Lohr Karez on the outskirts of Quetta.
Police said the device had been planted on the track and detonated shortly before a train was scheduled to arrive. In this sense, about 1.5 feet of the main line was destroyed, prompting authorities to suspend rail traffic while repair work began.
Meanwhile, the unidentified motorcyclists threw a grenade at the Manzoor Shaheed Police Station, though the device failed to detonate.
A bomb disposal team later defused it safely. A separate grenade attack targeted a police patrol in the Kechi Beg area, where the explosion caused no casualties.
Same in Dera Murad Jamali, attackers hurled a grenade at a police vehicle at DC Chowk. Police said the patrol was on routine duty when it came under attack.
The grenade did not explode and was subsequently defused by the bomb disposal squad. Motorcyclists hurled a grenade at the site, damaging machinery and injuring a security guard. The injured guard was shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the wave of attacks, and police have launched investigations into all seven incidents.
