QUETTA: Residents of the Eastern Bypass, particularly from the New Laborer Colony, have voiced strong concerns over persistent electricity outages and have urged authorities to shift their connection to a more stable power feeder.
Haji Obaid, a respected businessman from the area, highlighted the severe inconvenience caused by the unreliable power supply, which barely reaches 8 to 9 hours a day.
He noted that sudden fluctuations often damage household appliances.
Obaid further alleged that in the nearby Old Laborer Colony, WAPDA officials had reportedly demanded a bribe of five lakh rupees to transfer their line to a better feeder—an amount the wealthier residents there managed to pay.
However, the New Laborer Colony lacks the financial capacity to afford such a hefty demand, leaving them to endure frequent blackouts.

Despite repeatedly approaching WAPDA staff, residents claim they are met with further monetary demands and no official avenue to file a complaint. They have appealed to the government for immediate intervention to ensure fair and uninterrupted access to electricity.
