QUETTA: As winter intensifies in Quetta, demand for warm blankets has risen sharply. Iranian-made blankets have emerged as the top choice for city residents.
Traders say the drop in temperatures has pushed buyers into markets earlier than usual. Shops in key commercial areas are seeing steady footfall.
Muhammad Jameel, a blanket trader at Mizan Chowk’s Amanat Khan Bania Plaza, said demand increases every year with the onset of winter. Buyers also arrive from other cities to shop in Quetta.
Jameel said most blankets available in the market come from border regions. These include Iranian and Chinese products.
He said Korean and Spanish blankets once dominated sales. That trend has now shifted. Chinese and Iranian blankets lead the market due to better quality and more affordable prices.
Jameel added that blanket prices rise by an average of 10 percent each year. Higher import costs and growing demand are the main reasons.
According to him, double-bed blankets are priced between 4,000 rupees and 9,000 to 10,000 rupees. Single-bed blankets range from 3,000 rupees to 5,000 or 6,000 rupees. He said a wide variety of designs and qualities gives buyers more choice.
Residents confirm the trend. Quetta local Shams ur Rehman said he buys blankets from the same shop every year.
He said the quality is superior and prices are lower than in other markets. While most blankets now come from China, he noted that high-quality options are available. Iranian blankets, he added, remain popular for their durability and warmth.
Traders and consumers link the surge in demand to harsh winter conditions. Gas shortages and falling temperatures have increased reliance on blankets.
