QUETTA: Tragedy struck a residential neighborhood in Quetta in the early hours of Saturday, when a massive, illegally installed water storage tank burst, killing a young girl and leaving five others, including women and children, seriously injured.

The horrific incident occurred around 5:00 am, when a large fiber-made “water bladder” with a reported capacity equivalent to 50 standard water tankers suddenly ruptured. The tank, which authorities confirmed was both illegally placed and unsecured, gave way with tremendous force. The resulting deluge created a powerful surge of water that slammed into a nearby house, collapsing its walls and sweeping through the structure while the family slept.

Tragically, a young girl inside the home lost her life in the catastrophe. Five other members of the household, including women and children, sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. The force of the incident left the dwelling severely damaged and the surrounding area inundated.

Upon receiving information, officials from the district administration and local police quickly arrived at the scene. They launched immediate rescue operations to ensure no other individuals were trapped and to assess the full extent of the damage. Police have taken swift action, arresting the owner of the private water supply facility responsible for the unsafe installation. Authorities have stated that further investigations are now underway to determine the exact cause of the rupture and to hold those responsible for the negligent setup accountable.

This devastating event has highlighted grave concerns over the unregulated and hazardous installation of private water storage solutions in densely populated residential areas, casting a spotlight on urgent public safety and regulatory failures.
