QUETTA: A senior police official on Thursday took immediate and strict notice of a viral video showing a traffic policeman accepting a bribe, leading to the officer’s immediate suspension and the initiation of departmental proceedings.
The video, which circulated widely on social media platforms, allegedly shows a traffic policeman stationed in the city accepting a bribe of Rs 200 from a citizen. The footage sparked public outrage and drew swift condemnation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dosteen Dashti, addressing the incident, stated that the department moved quickly upon identifying the incident. “Immediate and strict notice has been taken of the video of a traffic policeman taking a bribe of Rs 200 going viral on social media,” SSP Dashti confirmed. “The traffic policeman seen in the viral video has been immediately suspended and departmental action has been initiated.”
In a firm statement, the SSP emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption within the ranks. “Such corrupt officials have no place in the police force,” Dashti asserted. “Corruption will never be tolerated in the police force. He said that whoever violates the law, action is certain.”
The swift action is being viewed as a move to uphold institutional discipline and restore public trust, which is often eroded by such incidents. The case highlights the increasing role of social media and citizen journalism in holding public officials accountable for misconduct. The department has reiterated its commitment to rooting out corruption and ensuring that all personnel adhere to the law they are sworn to uphold. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
