ISLAMABAD: The Balochistan government has decided to install artificial intelligence (AI)-based traffic signals in Quetta as part of efforts to ease chronic traffic congestion and modernise the provincial capital’s transport system.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who reviewed plans for implementing a modern traffic management system across the city.
Officials told the meeting that AI-powered traffic signals would help manage growing traffic volumes by adjusting signal timings according to real-time traffic flow.
Bugti directed the relevant departments to ensure coordinated implementation of an efficient, sustainable and technology-driven traffic management system.
He said the government aimed to improve traffic flow, reduce travel times and provide safer and more convenient transport for residents.
The chief minister said introducing advanced technology would strengthen traffic monitoring, improve road discipline and increase transparency in traffic management.
He described the use of AI in traffic control as a key part of the provincial government’s reform agenda.
Bugti said providing modern urban services and a safe, organized transport environment remained among the government’s top priorities.
Officials did not announce a timeline for the project’s implementation or disclose its estimated cost.
