QUETTA: In a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Quetta Division Shazib Khan Kakar, a comprehensive strategy was formulated to address the severe gas pressure issues and load-shedding plaguing the city and its surrounding areas.
The meeting, attended by Deputy Commissioner Quetta, senior gas company officials, and other stakeholders, focused on mitigating the hardships faced by citizens, especially domestic consumers, during the winter season. Commissioner Kakar issued a series of directives aimed at ensuring a more equitable and reliable gas supply.
A key decision mandates that any official gas load-shedding must be conducted only after 12 midnight to minimize public disruption during daytime hours. The Commissioner emphasized that providing gas with appropriate pressure is the fundamental responsibility of the gas company, despite the natural increase in consumption during colder months.
To tackle the root cause of low pressure, Commissioner Kakar ordered a stringent crackdown on illegal practices. He instructed Assistant Commissioners and gas authorities to launch joint operations against gas theft, meter tampering, and the illegal use of compressors. The directive specifically targets compressor sellers, commercial users, and tandoor owners whose activities severely diminish pressure for lawful household consumers.
Furthermore, the commissioner directed the gas company to expedite the repair of gas lines and the replacement of aging pipelines to improve the overall supply system. He also called for public awareness campaigns on gas theft prevention and safe usage.
The gas authorities assured the commissioner of their cooperation, pledging to reduce the frequency and duration of load-shedding. It was agreed in the meeting that a joint strategy for fair gas distribution and action against illegal connections would be implemented to provide maximum relief to Quetta’s citizens this winter.
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner (DC) Quetta, Mehrullah Badini, visited the Old Age Home on Monday, where he met with the staff and residents, reviewed administrative matters, and reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to the welfare of senior citizens.
In this regard, DC Badini held discussions with the institution’s supervisor and staff to assess the management and overall functioning of the facility.
He also interacted with elderly and differently-abled women residing at the home, listening to their concerns and noting their needs for better care and support.
