Quetta gets the country’s first provincial driving license authority

QUETTA: In a significant development for the people of Balochistan, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has officially launched a state-of-the-art driving licensing authority in Quetta. The initiative marks the establishment of the country’s first provincial-level licensing authority, aimed at simplifying the licensing process and bringing essential services closer to the public.

Speaking at the inauguration, Deputy Inspector General Ashfaq Ahmed highlighted the project’s importance, stating that both national and international driving licenses can now be obtained directly from Quetta — a major convenience for residents across the province.

One of the most notable features of the new licensing center is the dedicated facility for women, offering a respectful and secure environment for driving tests and license issuance. This step is expected to greatly encourage women’s participation in driving and enhance road safety awareness.

Since its soft launch, the facility has already issued over 2,000 driving licenses, reflecting its efficiency and the public’s enthusiastic response. The process is now not only simplified and transparent but also backed by modern infrastructure and trained personnel.

“This is not just a service—it’s an opportunity,” stated NHMP officials, emphasizing how the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to public convenience, safety, and empowerment in Balochistan.
