QUETTA: The Metropolitan Corporation Quetta (MCQ) has cleared years-old accumulated waste from the Qili Ismail area under the ongoing “Safaa Quetta” cleanliness campaign.
The initiative is part of Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti’s vision for a “Clean and Beautiful Quetta,” aimed at ensuring a healthier environment and improved municipal services for citizens.
The waste in Qili Ismail had remained unaddressed for several years due to jurisdictional complications between the Metropolitan Corporation Quetta and the Cantonment Board.
This long-standing issue had resulted in environmental pollution, foul odour, and persistent public complaints. In this regard, the directives of MCQ Administrator Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Qambrani, Safaa Quetta teams mobilized heavy machinery to remove the legacy waste and restore cleanliness in the area.
Furthermore, the MCQ administration focused on that despite institutional challenges, ensuring quality sanitation and municipal facilities remains its primary responsibility.
Moreover, the administration further announced that under the Safaa Quetta campaign, all legacy waste sites across the city will be cleared by February next year. This citywide effort, they added, will play a central role in establishing sustainable cleanliness standards and contributing to Quetta’s long-term urban improvement goals.
In this sense, the residents of Qili Ismail have expressed appreciation for the long-awaited cleanup, noting that the removal of garbage has brought noticeable relief and improved the overall condition of the neighbourhood.
On the other hand, Balochistan government has turned Gwadar into the status of Municipal Corporation.
The Metropolitan Corporation Quetta confirmed its dedication to continue delivering essential public services effectively and responsibly. It stated that future efforts will focus on maintaining cleanliness, enhancing municipal operations, and ensuring that similar issues do not persist in other parts of the city.
