Quetta LG polls: National Party predicts decisive victory, cites people’s trust

The National Party has strongly criticised the government's decision to integrate the Mastung Levies Force into the police, calling the move a damaging attack on the region's social and tribal fabric.

QUETTA: The National Party has positioned itself as a leading contender in the upcoming local government elections, citing its longstanding democratic struggle and early electoral gains. In a statement issued by the party’s provincial spokesperson, the NP reiterated its core commitment to establishing the supremacy of democratic institutions and ensuring timely local polls.

The spokesperson emphasized that the party’s political axis revolves around protecting Balochistan’s coastal resources and securing public rights in health, education, and social equality. “We believe in a society where every individual has rights, irrespective of color or race,” the statement read, underscoring a platform of grassroots advocacy. The party credited its consistent democratic ideology, maintained despite “difficulties from powerful circles,” for fostering public trust.

This confidence appears to be translating into early electoral success. The spokesperson announced that approximately 20 National Party councilors have already been elected unopposed across various wards in Quetta, a development hailed as a “great honor” and a testament to popular support. The party is mobilizing its core political workers to fully participate in the ongoing election process.

Looking ahead, the statement pointed to December 28 as a pivotal date, predicting it will herald a “unique place” for the National Party in Quetta’s political landscape. The party asserts that the people of Balochistan view it and its leadership as the genuine representative of democratic interests, a sentiment they aim to solidify through the ballot box.

Meanwhile in a significant stride towards urban modernization, the Balochistan government has sealed a crucial financial agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to conduct a feasibility study for a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Quetta. The move marks a major milestone in Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti’s vision to establish a modern, safe, and quality transport network across the province.

The Project Readiness Financing Agreement was formally signed at a ceremony held at the Economic Affairs Division in Islamabad on December 5, 2025. Secretary of the Balochistan Transport Department, Hayat Kakar, represented the provincial government, signing the pact that will fund the comprehensive technical study essential for the Quetta BRT project.
