Quetta Lawyers Protest Against Constitutional Amendments

QUETTA: Lawyers led by senior legal figure Ali Ahmed Kurd staged a protest at the district courts in Quetta on Tuesday against the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments.

A large number of lawyers joined the demonstration and chanted slogans against both amendments.

Protesters said the amendments conflict with the spirit of the Constitution and undermine the basic structure of the constitutional framework.

Lawyers argued that the proposed amendments would negatively affect the balance of institutional powers, fundamental rights of citizens, and the democratic system.

Leaders of the lawyers’ community warned that the amendments pose serious risks to constitutional supremacy, judicial independence, and civil liberties — principles they described as essential for any democratic society.

They said that any disruption in the balance of power between state institutions directly harms justice, the parliamentary process, and citizens’ rights.

Protesters urged the government and relevant authorities to withdraw the 26th and 27th amendments immediately, warning that they could weaken Pakistan’s constitutional and democratic order.

They insisted that rejecting the amendments was a constitutional and moral duty for every conscious citizen and every lawyer.
