Quetta chamber of commerce delegation departs for Tehran

Quetta: A delegation from the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by President Haji Muhammad Ayub Khan Marriani, has departed for Tehran to participate in key Pakistan-Iran economic gatherings.

The team will attend the “Pakistan Business Forum,” organized alongside the Pakistan-Iran Joint Economic Commission on September 15 and 16.

Following the forum, the delegation is scheduled to travel to Kerman to take part in the “Introducing Pakistan Markets” conference on September 17 and 18.

The group includes former president Fida Hussain Dashti, along with members Mahmood Khan and Abdul Hadi.

Executive members Abdul Qasim Khilji, Niamatullah, and Kaleemullah are expected to join the delegation later.

Pakistan and Iran share a long border and deep cultural ties, and their economic relationship has grown steadily despite sanctions and banking restrictions.

In recent years, bilateral trade has typically ranged between $1.5 billion and $2 billion annually, though official figures vary because a significant portion of commerce—especially food, fuel, and consumer goods—occurs through informal or border trade.

Key areas of exchange include energy, where Iran exports electricity and liquefied petroleum gas to Pakistan’s border provinces, and agriculture, with Pakistan supplying rice, fruits, and textiles.

Both countries have been working to formalize and expand this trade through projects such as border markets, the Iran–Pakistan Gas Pipeline, and agreements to boost barter trade in essential commodities.

High-level meetings like the Pakistan–Iran Joint Economic Commission and business forums aim to improve banking channels, ease customs procedures, and raise official trade volumes to a target of $5 billion in the coming years, underscoring the importance of stable regional cooperation.
