QUETTA: The newly constructed runway at Quetta International Airport has earned the prestigious FIDIC Asia Pacific Engineering Excellence Award during a special ceremony held in Islamabad.
FIDIC presented the award to recognize the Pakistan Airports Authority and the consultancy teams for their outstanding planning, technical expertise, and commitment to high safety standards.
Officials confirmed that the team completed the runway project at an estimated cost of PKR 5 billion without disrupting ongoing airport operations — an achievement widely praised by the regional engineering community.
Engineers designed the new Quetta Airport runway to be one of the longest and strongest in the Asia Pacific region, significantly boosting the airport’s ability to accommodate larger aircraft and increased air traffic.
PIA flight PK-3250, arriving from Islamabad, marked the first official landing on the upgraded runway on May 31, 2023 — a milestone in the airport’s operational progress.
By winning the FIDIC award, Quetta Airport has joined the ranks of top-tier infrastructure projects in the region and showcased Pakistan’s growing strength in modern aviation development.
