Putin pledges ‘loyal friend’ support to Iran in Nowruz message

MOSCOW : Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a series of diplomatic greetings to leaders across Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Iran in celebration of Nowruz, the spring festival marking the Persian New Year, while reinforcing Moscow’s commitment to Tehran amid ongoing regional challenges.

In official messages released by the Kremlin, President Putin congratulated the heads of several Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. Those receiving greetings included Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadir Japarov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In his correspondence with these regional partners, President Putin emphasized the high level of bilateral relations and expressed confidence that mutually beneficial and multifaceted ties would continue to develop successfully in the future.

Alongside the messages to CIS leaders, Putin extended special greetings to Iran’s top leadership. He addressed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, acknowledging the significance of Nowruz—a cultural touchstone also widely celebrated in Iran.

In his message to Tehran, Putin struck a notably supportive tone, offering prayers for the Iranian people to successfully navigate what he described as “difficult circumstances.” He stressed that Moscow remains committed to its partnership with the Islamic Republic.

“Moscow will continue to be a loyal friend and reliable partner of Tehran during this difficult time,” Putin said in the statement, underscoring the deepening strategic alignment between the two nations amid ongoing geopolitical tensions
