PSL New Franchise Renames ‘Pindis’ to ‘Rawalpindis’

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Super League franchise “Pindi Zalmi” has officially changed its name to “Rawalpindis,” league sources confirmed.

Last month, Wali Tech purchased the Rawalpindi franchise for PKR 2.45 billion. The team was previously known as Multan Sultans. When the new franchise took over, it initially renamed the team “Pindis.”

The franchise change followed Ali Tareen’s exit from the team due to disagreements with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The PCB then auctioned the franchise, which Wali Tech won.

After acquiring the franchise, the owners shifted the team’s base from Multan to Rawalpindi. They initially named the team “Pindis” and announced it through a 25-second social media video showcasing iconic Rawalpindi landmarks with energetic background music.

The announcement drew heavy criticism on social media. In response, league authorities instructed the franchise to include the full city name in the team’s official title.

As of now, the franchise has not made a formal announcement regarding the final team name.
