KARACHI: The new franchise set to represent Rawalpindi in the upcoming 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has officially announced its team name. The franchise, now christened ‘Pindiz’, will make its debut in the tournament scheduled to run from March 26 to May 3.
The development comes after Wali Tech acquired the franchise rights for Rs 2.45 billion during an auction process. The owners subsequently decided to relocate the team, changing its designated city from Multan to Rawalpindi.
On Sunday, the franchise revealed the new identity on social media through a dynamic 25-second video. The clip showcased iconic landmarks of Rawalpindi, set against a backdrop of high-energy music, signaling the team’s arrival in the league.
In a caption accompanying the video, the franchise elaborated on the ethos behind the name, stating, “The official name of the Rawalpindi team is ‘Pindiz’. We are fearless, we have come to challenge, we are coming with new enthusiasm and we are coming to change the game.” The franchise has also announced that the team’s official logo will be unveiled shortly.
The entry of the new Rawalpindi-based team follows the refusal of former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen to renew the 10-year ownership agreement, prompting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to put the franchise up for auction.
With the 11th edition of the PSL on the horizon, fans are eagerly anticipating the tournament, which will now feature the newly-branded ‘Pindiz’ team.
