WASHINGTON: The United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced the detention of two relatives of former Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.
In this regard, the individuals-identified as Soleimani’s niece and granddaughter were residing in the United States as green card holders prior to their arrest.
So far, Rubio confirmed that their permanent residency status has been suspended, and they are likely to face deportation proceedings in the near future.
He focused on that the United States would not compromise on issues related to national security under any circumstances. “Ensuring the safety of our nation remains our highest priority,” Rubio stated during a press briefing.
The development comes amid already strained relations between the United States and Iran.
Public interest in the case has also grown, with many questioning the legal basis for the arrests and the potential outcomes for the detained individuals.
