QUETTA: The process to appoint two additional judges to the Balochistan High Court has officially begun, following directions from the Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chairman of the Judicial Commission.
According to sources, Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court Justice Rozi Khan Barrech mutually decided to appoint two judges from the district judiciary. The Chief Justice of Pakistan has sought nominations in soft form by November 13.
The decision marks the initiation of the formal appointment process under the Judicial Commission’s supervision. Sources added that all nominations must be submitted electronically within the specified deadline.
In July this year, Justice Rozi Khan Barrech was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court following the retirement of Justice Muhammad Ejaz Swati.
Justice Barrech, who joined the provincial judiciary in 1998 as an Additional District and Sessions Judge, has served in various judicial and administrative roles, including Registrar of the High Court.
He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Balochistan High Court in May 2019 and confirmed as a permanent judge in May 2021. His appointment as Chief Justice marks the culmination of a distinguished career spanning over two decades in the Balochistan judiciary.
