ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that transparency and merit will remain the top priorities in the privatization process of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
He announced that the entire bidding process will be broadcast live on television across the country to ensure complete transparency.
The Prime Minister expressed these views during his meeting at the Prime Minister’s House with all the business leaders and company representatives participating in the PIA privatization bidding process.
He stated that the privatization initiative is moving forward smoothly with the aim of restoring PIA’s lost reputation and aligning the national airline with modern international standards.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that, by the grace of Allah, PIA will soon once again live up to its legacy of being “Great People to Fly With.”
He further said that the restoration of PIA’s international flight operations will significantly ease travel for overseas Pakistanis and will also play a vital role in boosting Pakistan’s tourism sector.
Modernizing the national airline, he added, is essential for the overall growth of the tourism industry.
The Prime Minister also expressed hope that whichever bidder succeeds in acquiring this major responsibility will dedicate all their efforts toward reviving PIA’s image and ensuring its long-term development.
It was confirmed that the official bidding for PIA will take place on December 23, 2025, and the process will be broadcast live across all media platforms.
The meeting with all the bidders was held earlier today at the Prime Minister’s House.
Pakistan International Airlines is the national flag carrier of Pakistan, established in 1955. It operates domestic and international flights across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and beyond.
PIA played a pioneering role in the aviation history of several countries and was once regarded as one of the leading airlines in the region for its service standards and safety record.
Over the years, the airline has faced financial losses, management issues, and operational challenges.
To restore its performance, the Government of Pakistan has initiated a privatization and restructuring process aimed at improving efficiency, regaining public trust, expanding international routes, and aligning the airline with modern aviation standards.
