Presidential ordinance issued to reorganize Federal Constabulary

ISLAMABAD: The newly-restructured Federal Constabulary (FC) will now function as a mainstream law enforcement agency, comprising 41 wings and six divisions, as reported by 24NewsHD TV channel.

On Monday, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry announced that the government has formally decided to reorganize the Frontier Constabulary into a federal force aligned with modern law enforcement standards.

This transformation follows an ordinance issued on Sunday by President Asif Ali Zardari, granting the federal government authority to convert the Frontier Constabulary—a force traditionally responsible for border and frontier security—into the Federal Constabulary.

The upgraded force is tasked with supporting law enforcement operations, maintaining public order, and responding to a broad range of national security challenges in a more coordinated and flexible manner.

Following the president’s directive, the Law and Justice Division promptly released an official notification.

The ordinance explains that while the Frontier Constabulary was originally created to maintain peace in border regions and remote areas, shifting security needs—such as rising emergencies, civil disturbances, and natural disasters—demand a more dynamic and well-equipped force.

Citing the absence of the Senate and National Assembly sessions, the ordinance stated that the President was satisfied with the urgency to act.

Titled the Frontier Constabulary (Re-organization) Ordinance, 2025, the new law takes effect immediately.

During a press conference in Islamabad, Talal Chaudhry, flanked by FC Commandant Riaz Nazir, confirmed that the reorganized FC would function like any other federal law enforcement agency, fully funded by the federal government.

He added that recruitment for new personnel from across the country will begin soon, and new wings will be added to enhance operational capacity.
