LARKANA: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday directed the government to prioritise public relief by minimising the burden of rising petroleum prices and reducing economic pressure on citizens.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting held at Bhutto House, according to an official press release.
The meeting was attended by key government figures, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik.
The participants conducted a comprehensive review of the country’s law and order situation, economic outlook, and developments in the energy sector, with particular focus on petroleum product pricing.
During the briefing, the interior minister informed the president about ongoing counterterrorism operations and measures to strengthen border security.
The meeting also discussed tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, along with broader regional security challenges, mentioning the need for continued vigilance and coordination.
Meanwhile, the finance and petroleum ministers provided updates on key economic indicators and the current state of the energy sector. They also outlined steps being taken by the government to manage petroleum prices and ensure stability in the market.
President Zardari stressed that economic policies must remain people-centric, underscoring the importance of protecting citizens from the adverse effects of inflation.
He directed relevant authorities to adopt measures that would prevent rising fuel costs from disproportionately affecting the common man.
The president reiterated the government’s commitment to balancing economic stability with public welfare, calling for coordinated efforts to provide immediate relief while ensuring long-term sustainability.
