ISLAMABAD: US President Donald Trump will meet Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir today. The meeting will take place during a closed-door lunch in the White House Cabinet Room. A White House spokesperson confirmed the development.
The meeting is part of Field Marshal Munir’s official visit to the United States. On Monday, he met with the overseas Pakistani community in Washington, D.C. They gave him a warm welcome and praised Pakistan’s Armed Forces for their bravery in Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.
Field Marshal Munir thanked the diaspora for their support. He acknowledged their vital role in Pakistan’s economy and image through remittances, investments, and achievements abroad. The meeting ended with a shared commitment to strengthen ties and face challenges together.
This visit comes at a strategic moment. Last month, tensions flared between Pakistan and India after Indian airstrikes on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan for the incident but provided no proof. The situation escalated into cross-border strikes.
Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos in response. Its military downed six Indian Air Force jets, including Rafale fighters. The conflict ended on May 10 after the U.S. brokered a ceasefire.
