KABUL: At least nine people were killed and 25 others were injured after a powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan late Monday night.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the quake was located near Jalalabad, in Nangarhar province, at a depth of just 8 kilometers, which increased the destructive potential of the tremors.

Afghan officials reported that the earthquake occurred at 11:47 PM (local time). Just 20 minutes later, the region was shaken again by a 4.5-magnitude aftershock, also centered in Nangarhar at a depth of 10 kilometers.
