Power crisis in Quetta's Eastern Bypass triggers public fury

QUETTA – Widespread and prolonged power outages in Quetta’s eastern bypass and adjoining areas have triggered public frustration as temperatures soar to 40 degrees Celsius.

Affected localities include Saryab Road, Qambrani Road, Pashtoon Abad, Kharot Abad, and surrounding neighborhoods, home to an estimated 500,000 to 1 million residents.

The unannounced load-shedding during the peak of a heatwave has left citizens distressed and anxious.

Residents expressed anger over the government’s failure to ensure basic utilities, especially in a city that represents the provincial capital. “Authorities talk about rights for Balochistan, yet the capital itself is suffering. One can only imagine the conditions in remote areas,” said a resident.

Social activist and businessman Haji Obaid Agha revealed that the primary issue lies in the malfunctioning feeder line. Despite repeated requests to replace it, WAPDA staff allegedly demand heavy bribes for action. “Most people can’t afford solar systems or pay bribes.

If urgent steps aren’t taken, people will be forced to take to the streets in protest,” he warned.
