QUETTA: The political and social notables of Quetta have expressed their reservation on the local government election in Quetta.
During a recent meeting, several prominent figures, including Naeem Ahmad Madani, Muhammad Kamran Madani, Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan leader Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, Balochistan Awami Party Quetta City President Haji Ihsanullah Khaksar, political and social activist Qaiser Mahmood Khan, former WASA Managing Director Hameed Latif Rana, Jamiat-ul-Qurra Balochistan chief Qari Abdul Rasheed Hazarvi, PPP leader Lala Sagheer Kharl, PTI’s Najm-us-Saqib, along with Moin Akhtar, Abdul Rahman, and others, expressed strong concerns over the irresponsible manner in which Quetta’s constituencies were restructured.
They stated that instead of improving the local government system, the current delimitation has weakened it.
The participants also criticized the inclusion of voters’ names in the wrong constituency lists, claiming that this mismanagement has deprived many citizens of their right to vote.
They emphasized that every voter wishes to cast their vote within their respective constituency and choose the most suitable candidate, but unfortunately, the Election Commission has restricted this fundamental right.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the attendees strongly urged the Government of Balochistan to postpone the local body elections immediately and hold them only after correcting the electoral rolls; otherwise, these elections would be seen as contrary to public will.
It is worth mentioning that the election commission of Pakistan has issued the schedule of the local government election in Quetta. The polling for the local government election will be done on 28th December,
The Balochistan government had also submitted a petition against the conduction of the local government election. However, the election commission of Pakistan had turned down the petition.
