KP’s political parties vow to work jointly for peace

PESHAWAR: A successful peace jirga was held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing together all political parties of the province.

During the meeting, both the government and opposition parties agreed on forming a joint strategy against terrorism and strongly condemned terrorist activities.

Participants emphasized utilizing all available legal resources to completely eliminate terrorism and agreed to maintain a non-political approach in security matters.

The Chief Minister assured that the government would fully implement the jirga’s recommendations aimed at eradicating terrorism.

He further urged political leaders who are part of the federal government to support the provincial government in resolving the challenges faced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It is worth mentioning that on one hand, the KP areas are hit with an intense wave of militancy handled from across the border, and on the other side, there is strain between the provincial and the federal government on the matters of national security and law-and-order.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the ruling party of KP, has been disagreeing with the moves carried out by the states about the Afghan refugees as well as the militants.

Despite militant-attacks on the armed forces and the civilians, the provincial government has been maintaining the stance that the military operation in KP should be halted and the dialogue should be carried out for the peace promotion.

Similarly, the KP government has also been opposing the state’s stance of the repatriation of the Afghan nationals illegally residing in Pakistan.

The new CM of KP has been more concerned with the issues related to the release of the Founder Chairman of PTI Imran Khan than the national issues.

On the directives given by Imran Khan, CM Sohail Afridi has taken a neutral stance on the matter of the national security and he has denied attending several important meetings headed by the PM or the Army Chief.
