BANNU: Police has successfully foiled a major terrorist attack on a police station in the Bakakhel area of Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late Saturday night.
Police officials confirmed that 13 to 15 heavily armed terrorists launched an assault using modern and heavy weapons but the brave KP police thwarted the attack. The terrorists attempted to storm the police station but were repelled by the timely and effective response of the police personnel. No casualties among the police have been reported so far, and a search operation is currently underway in the surrounding areas.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, praised the bravery and professionalism of Bannu DPO and local police officials for bravely thwarted the terrorist attacks. IGP said that their swift action prevented a potential tragedy and ensured the safety of the personnel.
Further investigations are underway to trace the attackers and uncover their networks.
Earlier in the day, Police killed at least five terrorists of Fitna al Khwarij during an operation in different areas of Hangu on Saturday.
During the exchange of fire, terrorists injured District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Khalid and a Station House Officer (SHO), who were later shifted to hospital.
Similarly, at least five terrorists were killed and eight others were arrested in joint operation conducted by police and Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) in Malakand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday evening.

Waheedullah Khan, Assistant Commissioner Dargai tehsil of Malakand, told local media that the operation took place in the Mehrday area targeting members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who were involved in different terror attacks in the region. The arrested eight terrorists were shifted to a CTD facility, while the two injured were admitted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Dargai.
