Police foil terrorist attack on Lakki Marwat station

Militants launch an attack on checkpost in DI Khan

LAKKI MARWAT: Police officials foiled a major terrorist attack on the Gambila police station in Lakki Marwat district late Saturday night, forcing a heavily armed group of militants to flee after a fierce firefight. No casualties were reported among the security personnel.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Lakki Marwat, Nazir Khan, the attack was launched by 10 to 12 terrorists belonging to the “Fitna-ul-Khawarij” group. The assailants attempted to storm the police station from its western side under the cover of darkness.

However, police personnel stationed at the post were on high alert and responded immediately with intense retaliatory fire. “The police personnel were on alert and did not give the terrorists a chance to take up positions,” stated DPO Nazir Khan. He credited the timely and heavy response from the officers for thwarting the assault.

Following a brief exchange of gunfire, the attackers were forced to retreat, exploiting the night to escape the area. “Due to their timely action, the Fitna-ul-Khawarij were forced to flee without causing any harm. The police personnel remained safe during the operation,” the DPO confirmed.

Senior police officials commended the bravery and vigilance of the station’s personnel. Regional Police Officer (RPO) for Bannu Region, Sajjad Khan, praised the Gambila police team for their effective response, stating they had successfully “foiled the terrorists’ nefarious plans.”

The failed attack underscores the persistent security challenges in the region, even as police forces remain on high alert. Security has been further tightened in the surrounding area, and search operations have been launched to track down the fleeing militants.
