ISLAMABAD: The government has postponed the launch of the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme, which was scheduled to distribute 100,000 free laptops to deserving students across the country. This postponement came in light of the devastating floods that have struck Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The distribution drive, initially planned to begin in July 2025, has been deferred to prioritize ongoing rescue and rehabilitation measures in the flood-hit areas.
The decision underlines the government’s determination to address the urgent humanitarian needs of affected communities before resuming developmental initiatives. Furthermore, the recent floods have caused widespread damage, inundating villages, disrupting transportation and communication networks, and displacing thousands of families.
Moreover, officials mentioned that once the situation in KPK, GB, and AJK stabilizes, the programme will resume without compromise on its objectives. The laptops, which are part of a broader national effort to empower students and strengthen the digital economy, will be distributed to deserving candidates in all provinces and regions.
