ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to lay the foundation stone of the landmark Karachi-Quetta-Chaman Expressway (N-25) on August 14, 2025, marking Pakistan’s Independence Day with the launch of a project being hailed as a milestone in national and regional connectivity.
According to reports, the 815-kilometer expressway will link Karachi with Quetta and Chaman, enhancing trade routes, regional integration, and access to remote areas of Balochistan. Officials describe the initiative as a key driver of economic growth and national development.
The mega infrastructure project is being financed through a special levy of Rs. 8 per liter on petroleum products, with Rs. 100 billion allocated in the current fiscal year’s federal budget.
At a high-level review meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, officials confirmed notable progress in the initial phases. The Hub Bypass has now been incorporated into the project, and 68% of construction work on the 51-kilometer Jiwani to Surab section has already been completed.
In addition to modern road infrastructure, the project includes, Construction of advanced service areas, Provisions for future lane expansion, the establishment of a dedicated security force to ensure traveler safety.

Authorities believe the expressway will be transformative for underdeveloped regions of Balochistan, bringing them into the national economic mainstream and playing a crucial role in advancing the objectives of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
