LONDON: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the United States President Donald Trump assured him of Washington’s complete support in strengthening economic and trade ties with Pakistan.
The Prime Minister described his recent meeting with President Trump in Washington as “highly cordial,” noting that the engagement would contribute to further improving bilateral relations.
He said Pakistan–US relations had seen notable progress in recent months. The discussions with President Trump focused on trade, investment, exploration of oil and gas, and development of mineral resources.
He added that the US President directed American companies to expand investments in Pakistan, indicating growing confidence in the country’s economic potential.
The Prime Minister stated that he also briefed President Trump on regional security matters, including Pakistan’s stance towards India.
He said that Pakistan had demonstrated its resilience in conventional warfare and credited timely US diplomacy for preventing further escalation.
He noted that Pakistan nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, acknowleding his role in defusing tensions and promoting global stability.
In this regard, PM Shehbaz focused on Pakistan’s active diplomatic efforts on Kashmir, saying the country had raised a strong voice at the United Nations for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
He admired the leadership of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, stating that their command showcased Pakistan’s military strength and national resolve.
He underlined the harmony between the government and the armed forces, stressing that this unity would help Pakistan emerge as a rising global power in the coming years.
On foreign relations, the Prime Minister described the recent Pakistan–Saudi Arabia defense pact as “historic,” fulfilling a long-standing aspiration of both nations.

The Middle East was also discussed; Shehbaz Sharif confirmed Pakistan’s constant support for Palestine, mentioning the devastation in Gaza since 2023 as one of the gravest humanitarian crises of modern times.
