PM Shehbaz, Chinese envoy discuss CPEC flagship projects

ISLAMABAD: China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, praised Pakistan’s active and positive role at diplomatic forums, including the UN Security Council. He commended Pakistan’s push for a peaceful regional settlement through dialogue and diplomacy.

The ambassador met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss regional security, especially the Iran–Israel conflict, and other bilateral issues. The prime minister sent warm regards to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.

He also extended best wishes for the upcoming SCO Summit and confirmed ongoing preparations for his own visit to China to attend it.

Recalling the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s full commitment to the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He highlighted key projects: the ML-I rail upgrade, Karakoram Highway realignment, and Gwadar Port operations. He also noted growing cooperation in agriculture, industry, and IT.

Shehbaz Sharif thanked China for its steadfast financial and economic support. He said this aid had stabilized Pakistan’s economy and improved its macroeconomic outlook, which is vital to his socio-economic development agenda.

Ambassador Jiang briefed the prime minister on Pakistan–China cooperation across all sectors. He confirmed that preparations are already under way to ensure the success of the prime minister’s visit to China at the end of August 2025.
