Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, during which they discussed the regional situation.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the call took place on Wednesday and covered bilateral relations as well as developments in the region.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and coordination within the Muslim Ummah amid its current challenges.
He expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and stressed that peace and security in the region should be ensured through dialogue and diplomacy.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman thanked the Prime Minister for the call and reiterated his desire to expand cooperation with Pakistan in all areas of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the Saudi Crown Prince also expressed his intention to undertake an official visit to Pakistan next year.
Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening the longstanding fraternal ties between the two countries.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders agreed that Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations have reached new heights in recent months.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share one of the closest bilateral relationships in the Muslim world, rooted in shared Islamic faith, historical ties dating back to Pakistan’s independence in 1947, and mutual strategic interests.
Often described as a “special relationship,” the partnership encompasses deep defense cooperation, substantial economic support from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, large-scale remittances from Pakistani workers in the Kingdom, and collaboration in religious and cultural affairs.
Defense ties have long been a cornerstone, with Pakistan historically deploying troops for training and advisory roles in Saudi Arabia, joint military exercises, and arms sales.
This culminated in the landmark Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed in September 2025, under which an attack on one country is considered an attack on both, formalizing collective security and enhancing joint deterrence amid regional tensions.
Economically, Saudi Arabia has provided billions in aid, loans, and deferred oil payments to stabilize Pakistan’s economy, while committing to multi-billion-dollar investments in sectors like energy, mining, infrastructure, IT, agriculture, and manufacturing as part of Vision 2030.
In late 2025, the two nations launched an Economic Cooperation Framework to boost trade and investment, marking a shift toward sustainable, private-sector-led partnerships, with Saudi interest in up to $10 billion in projects.
High-level visits, including recent phone calls between leaders and planned official trips, underscore the fraternal bonds, with both sides reaffirming commitment to regional peace, unity in the Ummah, and expanded cooperation in all domains as ties reach new heights in 2025.
