ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an urgent session of the National Security Committee (NSC) today (Monday) amid rising tensions in the Middle East following US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
The meeting will take place at 12 PM at the Prime Minister’s House.
Top civil and military leaders will attend the high-level session.
The agenda includes a review of the Iran-Israel conflict and its impact on regional security. The NSC will also discuss Pakistan’s internal and border security situation.
Sources say Army Chief General Asim Munir will brief the participants on his recent US visit.
Officials expect key decisions regarding Pakistan’s diplomatic stance on the crisis.
The Foreign Office has strongly condemned the US airstrikes. It called the attacks a violation of international law.
“The escalation is alarming,” the Foreign Office said. “Continued hostilities could destabilize the entire region.”
It urged dialogue and diplomacy as the only way to end the conflict.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. He condemned the US strikes and expressed solidarity with Iran and its people.
