ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an emergency meeting with the chief ministers of all four provinces and the heads of key national institutions to devise a comprehensive strategy for tackling the growing challenges of climate change and future flooding.
The meeting will focus on formulating a joint framework for the construction of new water reservoirs across the country, including in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The reservoirs are intended to ensure better water management and enhance resilience against the devastating impacts of extreme weather events. In this regard, the urgency of the matter, the post stated: “Climate change is a reality, and only through effective preparation can the damage caused by floods and other natural disasters be minimized.”
In this sense, the PM is expected to urge provinces and institutions to collaborate beyond political and administrative boundaries.
The meeting will review the latest climate forecasts, assess vulnerabilities in different regions, and discuss measures to strengthen disaster management systems, particularly in flood-prone areas.
