QUETTA: The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PkNAP) has launched a scathing condemnation of widespread raids conducted by state authorities in Quetta, labeling the government’s actions as “economic genocide” against the people.
In a strongly-worded press release, the provincial secretariat of PkNAP decried the recent operations by Customs, Frontier Corps (FC), Police, and other agencies on commercial showrooms, warehouses, and parking areas across the city. The party asserts these raids, undertaken with the “patronage” of federal and provincial governments, are a deliberate strategy to financially cripple the public and create mass unemployment.
The statement contextualizes the raids within a broader crisis. It highlights the complete cessation of formal trade along the Durand Line, including a two-year-long sit-in protest at the Chaman border, which has strangled legitimate commerce. In this vacuum, the seizure of vehicles and goods within Quetta is described as a devastating blow, threatening thousands of businesses and livelihoods already on the brink.
PkNAP further accused the governments of compounding a severe humanitarian situation. It cited ongoing security operations causing civilian casualties and displacement, coupled with a devastating drought that has crippled agriculture. “In such a severe situation, snatching livelihoods from the public is tantamount to burying them alive,” the statement declared.
The party issued a firm warning, stating that this “unconstitutional and illegal behaviour will not be accepted under any circumstances.” PkNAP vowed to “not hesitate to make any sacrifice” to protect the people’s right to employment and economic security, promising a vigorous struggle ahead.
The press release concluded with a direct demand for the federal government and all subordinate institutions to immediately cease the raids and uphold the public’s constitutional right to lawful employment, preventing further suffering for those already grappling with severe economic hardship.
