Peace jirga and interfaith conference held in Waziristan

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: The peace jirga was held in North Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan with the support of the Pakistan Army. In this sense, in jirga, peace-building narratives were undertaken.  In this regard, a grand tribal jirga was convened in Miranshah, North Waziristan, where multi-sect peace conference took place in Chahkan, D.I. Khan, bringing together tribal elders, religious scholars, and community leaders from various sects.

Furthermore, the jirga, held on August 1 in Miranshah, saw active participation from tribal elders and community representatives. The gathering reasserted full support for the Pakistan Army’s zero-tolerance policy against extremist elements, particularly the militant group referred to as Fitna Al-Khawarij.

In this sense, he was addressing the jirga as the chief guest, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Major General Adil Iftikhar Waraich acknowledged the historical contributions of the tribal people and focused on the critical role of elders in sustaining peace.

So far, a Grand Interfaith Peace Conference was organized in Chahkan, D.I. Khan, again with support from the Pakistan Army. Religious scholars and leaders from all sects participated in the event, where they jointly condemned militancy and expressed unwavering support for the state’s peace efforts.

Major General Neknam, GOC and the guest of honor at the peace conference, appreciated the role of religious scholars in fostering national harmony.
