PDMA warns of heavy inflows from India

LAHORE: Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Irfan Ali Kathia has cautioned that more than 70,000 cusecs of additional water. In this regard, the DG PDMA said that no formal mechanism exists for timely information sharing with India regarding water releases, despite federal government efforts to establish one.

Furthermore, Kathia noted that light rains have continued across the region, with Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin receiving the heaviest rainfall during the past 24 hours.

He further added that pressure was experienced at the Sutlej River following the breach of a dam in India, though water levels at Ganda Singh Wala had slightly receded. He revealed that 22 villages in Kasur district were evacuated a day earlier, where 303,000 cusecs of floodwater is currently passing through.

So far, the Head Marala is currently witnessing inflows of 175,000 cusecs, while Chiniot recently recorded over 800,000 cusecs which has since declined to 650,000 cusecs. He further stated that on September 4, 875,000 to 925,000 cusecs of floodwater is likely to reach Panjnad, which will move towards Guddu Barrage by September 6.

The DG PDMA confirmed that 30 people have lost their lives, mostly due to accidental causes, while over 1.5 million people across Punjab have been directly affected by the floods.
