Passenger safety at risk: Buses found with illegal modifications

QUETTA: The district administration of Quetta have suspended the permits of two public service buses after discovering concealed compartments during an inspection drive carried out on the directives of the provincial government.

In this regard, the inspection was conducted at Jabal-e-Noor on the Western Bypass under the supervision of Quetta Division’s Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary, Zahoor Ahmed Baloch. The operation was launched in compliance with the decisions of the 18th Apex Committee and the guidelines issued by the Balochistan Transport Department.

The inspection teams, comprising officials of the RTA Quetta Division and Quetta Traffic Police, acted on the instructions of Secretary Transport Balochistan Muhammad Hayat Kakar and Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzeb Khan Kakar.

Furthermore, public service vehicles operating on long routes were thoroughly checked, with a special focus on identifying unlawful modifications, particularly hidden compartments.

So far, two buses, bearing registration numbers BSW-770 and LES-6602, were found to have concealed sections built into them.

Moreover, the RTA further stated that the presence of such unlawful modifications raises grave concerns, as hidden sections could potentially be misused for illegal activities, endangering lives and property.
