ISLAMABAD: Delegations from the United States and Iran have left for their respective countries after Washington and Tehran failed to reach an agreement following 21 hours of “substantive discussions” held under the Pakistan-mediated “Islamabad Talks”.
However, both sides praised Islamabad’s role in facilitating the high-stakes dialogue.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance praised efforts to advance a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, crediting Pakistan for playing a constructive role.
According to media reports, Vance thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir for their support, saying Pakistan made “important and positive contributions” to the process.
He said both leaders proved to be gracious hosts and made significant efforts to facilitate the talks, calling their role commendable.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi thanked Pakistan for bringing US and Iran face to face after years. He praised Pakistan for being the only one engaged in serious efforts.
Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei also appreciated Pakistan’s role in the ceasefire efforts.
“We are sincerely grateful to Pakistan for its full efforts to help make the negotiations successful,” he said.
